Meet Melt: Lovelet

We always like to keep our friends and fans up-to-date on all the cool and crafty things we're doing here at Melt Bakery, but sometimes we just want to talk about our ice cream sandwiches.

And can you blame us?

Kareem and I (Julian) are the brains behind Melt Bakery and have been hard at work making sandwiches and coming up with new and exciting concoctions for seven years now. And in that time, Melt has grown from a single, tiny market table to an NYC sensation! But of course, we couldn't have done it without our passion, ambition, and ice cream-loving fans.

But at the end of the day, we're not the real stars here at Melt Bakery – that would be our delicious sandwiches! Here's a peek behind the curtain of one of our fan favorites – the Lovelet.

Ah, yes. The Lovelet. So pretty. So sweet. So pure.

What started out as a Valentine's Day experiment back in 2011 turned into one of our best selling sandwiches to date. They started out as whoopie pies for a client, but that got us thinking -- "wouldn't this be great with ice cream?" The rest is history.

These devilishly delicious sandwiches are made up of smooth cream cheese ice cream - presenting an ice cream sandwich-take on red velvet’s favorite icing - from regionally sourced cream cheese, and a soft and chewy red velvet meltcake. Yes, meltcake, not cookie. We found that in order to keep the flavor and consistency right, we had to use a batter that was much more cakey than cookie-y, so we had to give it a name to match! And these meltcakes really do melt in your mouth.

And why is it so special? We're really proud of these sams because we think we got the flavor just right. It tastes much more natural than any other red velvet treats we've tried. "It tastes like real food!" is how our first pastry cook put it. It's so light and velvety and balanced – we can't get enough.  

And we KNOW you won't be able to get enough once you try them – our mouths are watering just talking about them! So how can you get your hands on these scrumptious sweet treats? Well, you’ve got options!  

We love seeing friendly faces! So the first place to get you ice cream sam fix would be one of our two storefront locations – Orchard Street in lower Manhattan and Front Street in Dumbo.

But it's getting cold, and trekking out across town can seem like a nightmare, so if you can't make it to our storefronts, you're in luck! You’ve got sugar cravings, and we’ve got the ice cream to satisfy them. Delivery options are offered up to 96th street in Manhattan!

You can also order delivery through one of our partners which include Postmates, UberEATS, and GrubHub!  

If you're feeling especially charitable, you can send our sams as a gift! We do longer distance deliveries too. If you meet the delivery minimum, we can send these succulent sams to your door, or the door of a close friend or family member!
